Documented Life - Week 4 - Words with Friends

Art Challenge:  Writing
Journal Prompt:  Words with Friends

I started this page by coloring the both pages with four different distress stains in random curved line patterns.  I hated it.  So I sprayed it with water.  Still hated it.  Next I covered the whole thing with some gesso...by scraping it in random pattens with a credit card.  Next I used a black Sharpie to accent the separation of colors in the curved lines.  Finally, I wrote the word "friend" and many adjectives that describe some of my closest friends.  Did some Zentangle inspired doodling and added some extra color with a purple metallic sharpie from Target and a magenta sharpie.  To protect the page, I covered the whole thing with Glue-n-Seal.  Love it!

Art Challenge:  The Color Wheel
Journal Prompt:  "I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way . . . “    - Georgia O’Keeffe

I chose to use colors that I normally shy away from...yellowish green purple and torquoise. I glued some sheet music and book paper scraps randomly around.  Painted the whole thing yellow green.

I stenciled the triangle pattern using a pouncer and paint.  Doodled the purple dots with a purple metallic sharpie.  The large purple circles were from a scrap of paper that I whipe off excess paint from my stencils when I used ink sprays.  I got a clean brush and painted over the scrap with water...the ink sprays bled and mixed.  I used circle punches to cut circles.  Pasted the circles to the page.  Drew some spirals and flowers on the circles.  Used my Pitt big brish to draw around the circles and smudge for some depth.  The border was created with a rolling stamp tool ... not too crazy about it because it never seems to dry.

Paint: Golden Green Gold, Studio Paint Classic Teal.  Purple and black left over Dylusion Ink spray on a scrap

Pens:  Cheap Sharpie (purple, green and blue) knock offs from Target, Faber-Castell Brush 1-5 mm black ink pen

Art Challenge:  Gesso
Journal Prompt:  “The beginning is always today.” -Mary Shelley

I gesso'ed the entire page.  Then brayered some thick acrylic paint over the entire page.  Used a flower stencil and sprayed black ink over.  Outlined the flowers with white pens, liquid pearls, stickles.  Added some washi tape and painted a square of gesso to white the quote using black pens.  White paint on the edges and made black dots with black acrylic and an eraser.

Sprayed the finished piece with  Spectra Fix Degas Pastel Fixative but it made slotches in the black Dylusion ink spray.  Darn it.

Paint: Dina Wakley Media Heavy Body Acrylic Paint in various bright colors, cheap white and black acrylic

Pens:  Sharpie Water Based Extra Fina Point Paint pen; Stickles and Liquid Pearls; Faber Castell 1-5 mm black Pitt artist pen

Tape: Scotch washi tape

Art Challenge: Book Paper
Journal Prompt: Be Your Own Goal Keeper

I decided to go with my signature swirl tree for my first layout.  The book paper and goals were taken from an old book  "The Courage to Heal"  that helped me transform my life from victim to survivor and now thriver. I also used old graph paper and some scripted scrapbook paper.

Paint:  Golden Quinacridone/Nickel Azo Gold, , Green Gold and Burnt Sienna; cheap white acrylic
Pens: Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pen Big Brush Dark Sepia, Green Olive; Sharpee Brown, Cheap gold Sharpee knock off from Target
